IRC Pool Reopening Safety Guidelines – Updated 7/17/20

Please note: These are all subject to change as the COVID situation changes and improves.  We are currently closed, but anticipate opening soon, under specific conditions.  Please check this page frequently as our COVID-19 safety procedures may change.

IRC Pool Reopening Conditions – Phase 2

We had our soft opening Saturday, June 20 for individual lap swim only.  It allowed us to test run our new COVID-19 safety measures, check-in procedures, sanitation routine and brand new reservation system (more below). We are striving to keep our members and staff safe, so we appreciate your patience as we navigate through this together.

Beginning Saturday, June 27, we introduced reserved open swim for 90 minute swim blocks with 30 minutes cleaning and sanitation in between each block, with 2 reserved lap lanes. Beginning Tuesday, June 30, Early Bird Lap swim will be introduced for weekday mornings in two blocks: 6:30am and 7:15am.

Pool Hours

  • Current operating hours are: 
    • Weekdays: noon – 7pm
    • Weekends: noon – 8pm.
    • There will be a 30 minute scheduled period of sanitation between each reserved swimming block within these hours.
  • These operating hours will be subject to change as conditions and membership numbers permit. 


  • To ensure the safety of our members, enable contact tracing, and regulating pool capacity, we are moving to a new reservation system. 
  • If you haven’t already, current 2020 members will receive an email from us (powered by Omnify) with a login username and password. The subject of the email will be: “Welcome to IRC’s Reservation System” (Please check your spam accounts). 
  • Current members will be able to login to Omnify to reserve a lap lane as soon as they receive their login credentials. 
  • Each member entering the facility must have a reservation.

Pool Attendance

  • Only pool members who are listed on the membership form will be permitted to use the pool– guests will not be permitted.  This is based on requirements we anticipate coming in from health and safety regulations and may be adjusted as the situation changes.
  • Do not come to the pool or pool area if you or anyone in your household are experiencing any of the signs or symptoms of COVID-19, including but not limited to fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, muscle or body aches, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, or new loss of taste or smell.  If you or anyone living in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, thinks or knows they had COVID-19, you and your family can return to the pool after 3 days with no fever, symptoms have improved, and it has been 10 days since symptoms first appeared.

Pool Occupancy

  • In accordance with County regulations, we will have strict capacity limits.  We will establish timed duration visits through our reservation system, powered by Omnify, so that members have every opportunity to schedule their visit time, and these will likely remain in effect until conditions allow more flexibility.
  • Members should plan on arriving early for their reserved visit time, and follow instructions for waiting outside the facility while respecting social distancing regulations.  We will have areas marked for member groups to wait in line, with distancing marks present to keep groups apart. We may allow members to check in prior to entry.
  • Members will be required to sign-in when entering and exiting, to monitor pool attendance, and follow pool signs indicating where to enter and exit the facility.  We expect to use keytags again this season, but may require members to submit family photos for entry confirmation.  Members will be asked to proceed immediately to their assigned area (household pod), to avoid gatherings at the pool entrance.
  • Members are strongly encouraged to remain within the facility during their visit, re-entry is not recommended and may require signing in again.  
  • Supervision of Children 13 Years Old and Under. (Updated 7/17)   Effective immediately children 13 years old and under must be supervised at the pool by an individual that is at least 16 years old.  This clarifies and provide more flexibility to our current rules for the supervision of children 13 years old and under.   Upon arrival at the pool, the supervising individual must confirm with the guard staff that they will be responsible for supervision of the child 13 years old or under.   The supervising individual is not required to be a family member of the individual they are supervising.   Social distancing must be maintained between the supervising individual and the child being supervised, if they are not from the same household, which includes having the supervising individual and child being supervised being located in separate pods and maintaining social distancing throughout the pool area.

Risk and Waiver

  • IRC and its pool management company Georgetown Aquatics has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19
  • An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Members voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19, and will be required to sign a COVID-19 pool regulations commitment regarding social distancing and other requirements, confirming their compliance to the regulations.
  • Failure to comply with these measures will result in members being prohibited from using the pool without a refund of membership fees.
  • IRC’s priority is the safety and well-being of all members and staff. Together with Georgetown Aquatics we will remain up to date and compliant with state and county regulations.

Pool Deck Etiquette (updated 7/2/20)

  • In general, while in the pool and on the grounds, physical distancing restrictions will be in place and permission to use the facility will require compliance with these safety measures.
  • Parents are expected to supervise their family with social distancing, ensuring that children maintain adequate distance from other members.

Face Coverings (updated 7/2/20) Face coverings must cover nose and mouth, secured under chin, per CDC guidelines.

  • REQUIRED: When entering and exiting the facility and at the Front Desk and will be denied entry if not properly covered.
  • REQUIRED: Walking to/from and within the Restroom
  • REQUIRED: When interacting with lifeguards
  • Encouraged while walking around the facility
  • Optional within your household pod
  • Prohibited in the water
  • Does not apply to children under 2. 
  • Lifeguard Staff – Lifeguards will be required to wear face coverings, except when in the guard chair and in the water, and members must respect social distancing when near lifeguards and in restrooms.  
  • Failure to comply with social distancing rules will lead to a verbal warning, request to leave the facility and potential revocation of membership, without refund of dues, for failure to follow policies and heed warnings.

Community Areas and Furniture

  • Each group that enters the facility for their reserved time will be given a physical distancing space, called a household pod, where they may be close to family members who entered with them, which allows them to maintain physical distance from other groups.  Families should remain in their family area unless they are moving to the pool, the restrooms, or the pool exit. 
  • In this current phase, members are asked to “Bring your own furniture” i.e. lawn chairs, and this is subject to change as the situation improves. Umbrellas will be set up near household pods that are outside of the pavilion.
  • Members may bring their own food, but outside food delivery is not permitted at this time. Grills will not be available until further notice. Members will be required to pack any trash, leaving the facility free of litter so that staff can minimize contact with surfaces.  
  • The Baby Pool, Basketball Court, Swings, Playground Equipment, Clubhouse, and Water Fountains will be closed until further notice.
  • Due to the closure of the baby pool, babies are allowed with an adult in the main pool. A water diaper and plastic diaper cover is required for non-potty trained children.  This will be strictly enforced for general health and safety reasons.

Toys and Floatation Devices (updated 7/17/20)

  • Flotation Devices: Only Coast Guard- approved life vests and water wings are allowed. Children wearing said items must be supervised by an individual, 15 or over, in the pool, within arm’s reach. (See the note below regarding prohibited non US Coast Guard approved flotation.)
  • Other Flotations Including Rafts, Rings and Noodles: Rafts, inflatable rings and pool flotation devices, including noodles, are not permitted in the pool at this time.  (See the note above regarding IRC use of US Coast Guard approved life vests.)
  • Toys: Only small toys designed for use in the water may be taken into the pool. Generally speaking, this includes small toys which are designed to be used in or on the water, like diving rings and diving tubes. All small toys are for individual household use only, please do not share toys with other households. No hard plastic items are permitted.
  • Small Balls.  (Updated 7/17/20) Small soft balls will be permitted for use in the pool.   Members cannot play with balls outside of the pool.  If members want to play with a ball at the pool, they must bring their own ball.   As a reminder, any balls, toys or other items left behind after a swim session will be immediately discarded, as we are not permitted to maintain a lost and found.
  • Squirt Guns and Plastic Water Toys: Squirt guns or squirt toys, sponge balls, tennis balls, anything that is used to skip across the water, and/or hard plastic items (except for diving tubes and rings noted above) and similar items are prohibited in the pool.  This includes Water Bomb Splash Balls, Water Bomb Soaker Balls, Original Splash Bombs, and similarly marketed pool balls used for throwing, skipping across the pool surface.
  • Sports Balls: Basketballs, Tennis balls, Soccer and Footballs are Prohibited
  • Kickboards: Kickboards may be used for swimming and floating only. Use of kickboards for any other purpose, including hitting, splashing, or throwing is strictly prohibited. Pool management may confiscate any kickboard that is being used improperly.
  • Lifeguard Enforcement: The pool lifeguard staff may, at their discretion, exclude any toy item from the pool, even the approved items above, if they determine that use of the toy presents an unsafe situation.   Decisions made by the lifeguard staff are to be respected.  Challenges to decisions made may be grounds for dismissal.


  • Restrooms, showers and changing rooms will be open and will be cleaned and sanitized according to county and health department guidelines. 
  • Soap, water and hand sanitizer will be provided.  Members are expected to follow instructions on signs.
  • Pool railings, diving boards, and commonly touched areas will be sanitized according to the County Health Department regulations. 

Lost and Found

  • Under restricted COVID safe operating conditions, we will not be able to provide a Lost and Found. As all items will be discarded at the end of each day, please keep your valuables at home and take your possessions with you as you leave the facility.

Parties and Events

  • Party reservations will not be available and scheduled events will be on hold until further notice from the county.
  • As conditions evolve, the reservation system may be used for other types of reservations.
