We hope this email finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe during this time.
The IRC board has been closely monitoring the CDC, local, state and federal guidelines to evaluate how COVID-19 could impact our 2020 season. We’ve had to prepare for a normal Memorial Day opening but also a later opening as well as other possibilities.
Each season, we invest money in March and April to get the pool ready, then rely on membership dues in April, May and June to provide the funds to cover the entire year. From that perspective, this year is no different. In fact, this season we are facing an operating cost increase of almost 10% due to minimum wage increases and a longer pool season on the calendar. We set member dues levels based on the costs we have to cover, as we are a non-profit organization, and this season we’ve worked to limit the increase to 4%. Last season we had no increase, and roughly half of this year’s increase is for a planned season that is longer.
Since we are uncertain as to when the season can begin, we are making membership payment flexible this year. Normally we require a single payment for membership dues, but this year we are providing an option to pay dues into two payments. We are asking members to join now as you normally would, but decide to either pay half now or the full season dues. Paying full season dues helps us cover the season startup costs, and even paying half now is greatly appreciated. As the season schedule becomes more clear, we will communicate this and any adjustments needed for subsequent payments. We don’t believe the worst-case scenario will happen, but if the pool season is shortened, or worse case cancelled, pro-rata refunds will be processed less an allowance for minimal seasonal operating costs. You can access the 2020 membership form here.
We will continue to carefully prepare for the season using as little budget as possible. This season, more than ever, we do need a little extra help from our IRC members who agree that summers are best spent at the pool. We need your membership support more than ever. We have a strong forty-five-year track record, and our volunteer-run board is working hard to use your support wisely, ensuring flexibility this season while keeping an eye on long-term sustainability.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and loyalty at this time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at email@example.com.
Please continue to be safe so that we can all do our part to flatten the curve.
