All of IRC’s lifeguards are certified in CPR, Lifeguarding, First Aid and AED through the Red Cross or equivalent. They work hard to help keep the pool safe for all members. Here are their top 5 safety reminders for all members:
1. SCAN/CHECK-IN AT THE FRONT DESK
Please check in with your key tag/phone/last name at the Front Desk each time you enter the facility.
No child under the age of 10 may enter the IRC facility unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other suitable individual age 15 or older.
2. LEAVE NO TRACE
Please clean up your table and area and dispose of your trash properly before you leave. The lifeguards are there to keep us safe and not to clean up after members.
3. SAFETY FIRST
NO GLASS – Glass is prohibited within the entire facility; including drink bottles, pickle jars, salsa jars…
NO RUNNING – Please remind your children that there is no running on the pool deck.
NO DIVING BOARD for children who cannot swim across to the ladder unassisted. Parents may not be in the pool to “catch” their children.
4. THE “BABY” POOL and CHILDREN IN DIAPERS
The wading pool is restricted to children under six. The wading pool is not supervised by the lifeguard staff. Children in the wading pool must be supervised by an individual at least 15 years of age and within arms-reach at all times. Also, for the health of everyone using the pool, children who are not fully toilet trained must wear BOTH a tightly fitted swim diaper AND separate tightly fitted plastic pants before entering any pool. Children who are not fully toilet trained may only use the wading pool and (if accompanied by an adult within arm’s reach) the shallow end of the main pool. If there is an “accident” the entire pool will be vacated and will close for disinfecting and cleaning.
5. THUNDER AND LIGHTENING
In compliance with Maryland law, the pool area, including the pool deck, will be cleared any time that thunder is heard or lightning is seen. The pool will re-open 30 minutes after the last occurrence of thunder or lightning. No one is permitted in the pools during thunderstorms, when lightning is visible, or when the manager or lifeguards have requested that the pool be vacated.
Thank you for helping our lifeguards keep the facility SAFE for all members!
